Unshort — Privacy Policy

Unshort is a browser extension that blocks YouTube Shorts. This page explains what data the extension handles.

What we collect

Nothing is collected by us. Unshort does not have a server, does not send any data over the network, and does not use any analytics or tracking services.

What's stored, and where

Unshort stores the following information locally on your device, using Chrome's built-in storage.local API:

• Whether blocking is currently turned on or off
• A count of how many Shorts have been blocked, broken down by day, used to show your stats and streak

This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us, to Google, or to any third party. Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes this data.

Permissions explained

• Storage — to save your on/off setting and stats locally, as described above.
• Notifications — used only to show a local milestone notification (e.g. "you've blocked 100 Shorts"). No data is sent to generate these.
• Alarms — used to periodically refresh the toolbar badge so it reflects the correct day's count.
• Host permission for youtube.com — required so the extension can detect and hide Shorts elements on YouTube pages, and redirect away from Shorts video URLs.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
